New Utility Box Art Celebrates Community, Creativity, and Local Partnerships in Everett Station District

EVERETT, Wash. — Today, Stations Unidos unveiled two newly transformed utility boxes featuring original artwork that celebrates the creativity, character, and community of the Everett Station District.
The community utility box wrap project transforms everyday infrastructure into vibrant works of public art through a collaboration between Everett Station District, project artist Overall Creative, the City of Everett, utility partners, and local businesses. The two installations, located at Pacific Avenue and Pine Street and on McDougall Avenue, create new visual landmarks while demonstrating how community partnerships can enhance public spaces and strengthen neighborhood identity.
Community partners, local stakeholders, and project supporters gathered to celebrate the completion of the project and recognize the collaborative effort that brought the artwork to life. The unveiling highlighted the important role each partner played in transforming utility infrastructure into meaningful community assets.
"Small projects can have a big impact," said Brock Howell, CEO of Stations Unidos, the organization that manages the business improvement area for the Everett Station District. "The art brings joy to the community, and this project has brought an entire community together."
Funded in part through a grant from the City of Everett Cultural Arts Commission, the project reflects a shared commitment to expanding public art opportunities and creating welcoming public spaces throughout the community.
"The City and Cultural Arts Commission are proud to support projects that turn everyday infrastructure into unexpected moments of delight," said Tyler Chism, Economic Development and Marketing Manager for the City of Everett. "These utility box wraps celebrate local creativity while making the Station District a more welcoming and vibrant place for everyone."
"This project is a wonderful example of what can happen when local partners come together with a shared vision to make Everett even better," said Everett City Councilmember Paula Rhyne, whose District 2 includes the area surrounding Everett Station and the new utility box wraps. "I'm grateful to everyone involved who brought these designs to life and for investing in a welcoming and vibrant gateway to our city. These utility box wraps celebrate our community while reminding us that even everyday spaces can inspire pride in our great city."
"This project was especially fun because one of the boxes was inspired by dogs, and I couldn't resist including my own pup alongside his best friends," said Lina Cholewinski, artist and co-founder of Overall Creative. "I wanted to capture the energy and joy that dogs bring: chasing tennis balls, running in circles, making new friends, and creating the wonderful chaos that follows them wherever they go.
"These utility boxes are pieces of everyday infrastructure that we often walk past without noticing, and I love turning them into little moments of surprise. The box at Pacific Avenue and Pine Street was inspired by water and movement, themes that frequently appear in my work. The cool tones and flowing layers are meant to evoke a sense of calm, playfulness, and motion, almost as if you're looking beneath the surface. I hope these boxes bring a little more color, curiosity, and play to everyone's day."
The two locations were intentionally selected to maximize community impact. The utility box at Pacific Avenue and Pine Street serves as a gateway into the Everett Station District, creating a welcoming visual feature along one of the district's most visible corridors. The artwork adds vibrancy to the streetscape while celebrating the neighborhood's unique identity.
The McDougall Avenue installation builds upon Everett Station District's ongoing efforts to support neighborhood improvements and community needs. Located near the district's pet waste station, the dog-themed artwork complements an existing amenity that supports nearby residents and their pets. Together, these improvements create a cleaner, more welcoming environment while adding beauty to an everyday neighborhood space.
The project also supported a local business within the district. Everett Station District partnered with Vinyl Lab Wraps, a business located in the Everett Station District, to produce and install the utility box wraps. By selecting a district-based company, the project kept investment local while showcasing the craftsmanship and expertise of a neighborhood business.
Utility partners played an essential role in making the project possible. Snohomish County PUD supported the project through its Utility Box Wrap Program, recognizing the opportunity to transform essential infrastructure into community assets.
"PUD infrastructure plays a vital role in delivering safe and reliable power to our customers, but it also contributes to the character of the neighborhoods we serve," said Snohomish County PUD Commissioner Julieta Altamirano-Crosby. "I'm proud that through our Utility Box Wrap Program we can work with local partners like the Everett Station District to beautify public spaces and transform essential infrastructure into something that reflects local pride, creativity, and identity."
Ziply Fiber also partnered on the project as part of its commitment to investing in the communities it serves.

For Everett Station District, the utility box wraps represent more than a beautification project. They demonstrate how collaboration among public agencies, utility providers, artists, and local businesses can create lasting improvements that foster community pride, strengthen neighborhood identity, and enhance the public realm.
